Disney (1940) Fantasia - Original Vintage Production Art
Fantasia (1940) is the third full-length animated feature produced by Walt Disney Studios and was released on November 13, 1940. Conceived as a bold artistic experiment, the film is composed of eight animated segments set to classical music, blending visual storytelling with orchestral performance in a way never before attempted in animation.
Story direction for Fantasia was led by Joe Grant and Dick Huemer, with Ben Sharpsteen serving as supervising director. The film’s groundbreaking score was conducted by the renowned Leopold Stokowski and performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra, helping to redefine the role of sound in motion pictures.
In recognition of its lasting cultural and artistic impact, Fantasia was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry in 1990 for being “culturally, historically, and aesthetically significant,” particularly for its major advancements in the integration of sound and image.
